Summer Learning Fun

Who doesn’t love the movie Grease!! What a great movie it was!!

Here is my version of one of the most memorable songs in the movie Summer lovin. My husband is a big fan of Weird Al and we always try to put different words to songs.

Summer learning what should we ask

Summer learning happened so fast

I read a book perfect for me

Did some flash cards hard as could be

Summer days drifting away To ah! Oh the learning videos.

Well- a Well-a well-a huh

Tell me more, tell me more

Did you do some math.

Tell me more, tell me more

Was the learning app a big splash!

I started doing summer learning after my daughter’s preschool year. We do learning books that I find at the Dollar Tree, flash cards, and events at the local libraries, along with some learning apps on the ipad.

The kids really do well at times and on other days… Well, no one said teaching your kids during the summer would be easy. Praise to all you teachers out there!!!! I do not want your job!

Some of the things that I do to incentivise them is to have things like tattoos, stickers, or bubbles to reward them at the end. Sometimes I even let them go on and play PBS kids games on the ipad if they do a great job!

On road trips we take along flashcards. While my husband drives or vice versa.. One of us is quizzing the kids on adding, subtracting, letter sounds, and vocab words. They love this and try to beat one another…. Until inevitably they just get mad if one is answering faster and then we take turns.. HEHE

This really has helped since we are on the go allot in the summer.

Other things that we do for the fun of learning include, writing numbers, letters in chalk outside, baking, reading new fun books from the library, going to story hour at the local library, and I’m going to be honest with all of you…… some educational tv shows. I’m not going to lie, Numberblocks on Youtube have helped my kids so much with numbers and adding, subtracting, and our 4 year old is now multiplying!

Whoever the genius is behind that show and Alphablocks should seriously be thanked!!! I will put a link at the end of the post for these awesome educational shows for you!

Summer is for fun and we have a ton of it! But in the morning after breakfast for 15 minutes or so… we focus on learning for most of the days in the summer. This routine helps to make sure that I get it done before my crazy brain thinks I’m too busy for this time with them.

Other fun educational ideas you can find on pinterest, at your local library, or one of my favorite ways to figure out new ways to educate my children… ask a teacher for ideas. THey are full of them and they have really perfected ways to let the kids have fun and learn at the same time! Shout out to those amazing teachers!

So no matter what your summer education looks like for your littles, remember it does not have to be perfect, long, or the same daily. It just needs to keep their little spongy brains learning.
