“We should certainly count our blessings, but we should also make our blessings count.”
Neal A. Maxwell
This week’s challenge is a little different. I thought with Thanksgiving a few days away I would challenge the whole family.
Thanksgiving time. The time of family and friends coming together. Time for lots of great food, and too much dessert for most. I pray that everyone out there can have this same experience. I pray that all can think about their life and find many things they can thank God for on this holiday.
Now the day after Thanksgiving is a different story. Many people go out and face crowds of people to get deals on gifts, that they would otherwise not be able to afford. While I understand that people get amazing deals on items, there is so much hostility, so much greed -I challenge you this year to do something different.
Instead of Black Friday this year ,I challenge you to do something else. Try a Green Friday- that could mean you go out with your family and get a Christmas tree, put out homemade bird feeders, or go for a hike. You could also go through your family’s toys, clothes, or pantry and find great items to donate.
Remember this time of the year and the upcoming holidays can be terribly hard for some families. We face challenges both big and small, good and bad. Did you imagine you would be living this life? Did you imagine you would be so blessed? We never know what path the Lord will send us on.
I think of how fortunate my family is and I want to share what I can with others.
I challenge you to do the same. Be that example for your family. Send out kindness and help your children to see that they can make the world a more kind and generous place. Make this a yearly tradition to donate or give away toys that your kids no longer use. To go to a food shelter and donate food.
Be the joy that someone needs right now.
This is the week’s challenge!
I pray you all are blessed with love and joy this Thanksgiving!
-Kristy
One response to “Parent Challenge 3 – One for the whole family.”
Just love this challenge. I pray that families will except this challenge and see just how different the holiday can be spent.
It’s truly a healthy mind body and soul.
